Portable smart devices increasingly pervade into our daily lives to such a degree that they have become an indispensable tool in any kind of activity. Our relation with these devices has reached the limits of obsession and addiction. Yet beyond being a tool, smart devices can also become a field of artistic research and creation. One of these fields is Augmented Reality (AR) applications. Numerous companies offer a multitude of “free” applications so that the users can immerse themselves in this kind of literacy.
In AR applications there are no limits, there are no restrictions, it is a dialog between the real and the imaginary world. Materials are in dispute, Space has no meaning, time is reset to zero. It is here to transform, to comment, to create any kind of reality. The question that will always remain to be answered is whether we are already in this combination or not?
In this artistic work there are no options but only two phrases, one is in the application and the other is the title. Their combination offers the opportunity to define a personal meaning, different for each of us. Beyond the obvious, the application comments the dark side, the suffocating confinement, and corporations’ and democratically elected governments’ surveillance methods. While it raises the question of whether in all this: “is it me and am I participating in this absurdity?”.

Η εφαρμογή απαιτεί grand access στην φωτογραφική μηχανή και στην αποθήκευση φωτογραφιών της φορητής συσκευής.

Η εφαρμογή ιστού ιχνηλατεί το πρόσωπο και εφαρμόζει πάνω του 3D αντικείμενο, φωτογραφίζει όταν διαπιστώσει o αλγόριθμος μία συγκεκριμένη έκφραση προσώπου.

Η διείσδυση των φορητών έξυπνων συσκευών στην καθημερινή μας ζωή είναι τόσο μεγάλη που έχουν γίνει απαραίτητο εργαλείο σε κάθε είδους δραστηριότητα, έχοντας φτάσει μάλιστα στα όρια της εμμονής και της εξάρτησης. Πέρα όμως από τη χρήση τους ως εργαλείο προσφέρουν επίσης ένα ευρύ πεδίο καλλιτεχνικής έρευνας και δημιουργίας. Ένα από αυτά τα πεδία είναι οι εφαρμογές Augmented Reality. Πολλές εταιρείες προσφέρουν «δωρεάν» πλήθος εφαρμογών, ώστε ο χρήστης να μπορεί να εμβυθιστεί σε αυτού του είδους τον γραμματισμό. Στις εφαρμογές AR δεν υπάρχουν όρια, δεν υπάρχουν περιορισμοί, είναι ένας διάλογος ανάμεσα στον πραγματικό και τον φανταστικό κόσμο. Το υλικό αμφισβητείται ο χώρος δεν έχει σημασία, ο χρόνος μηδενίζεται. Είναι εδώ για να μεταμορφώσει, να σχολιάσει και να δημιουργήσει κάθε είδους πραγματικότητα. Το ερώτημα που μένει να απαντηθεί είναι αν εμείς τελικά βρισκόμαστε μέσα σε αυτόν τον συνδυασμό ή όχι;
Στο καλλιτεχνικό έργο δεν υπάρχουν επιλογές, μόνο δύο φράσεις, η μία βρίσκεται μέσα στην εφαρμογή και η άλλη είναι ο τίτλος της. Ο συνδυασμός τους προσφέρει την δυνατότητα για τη δημιουργία ενός προσωπικού νοήματος, διαφορετικού για τον καθένα μας. Η εφαρμογή σχολιάζει, πέρα από το προφανές, την σκοτεινή πλευρά, τον ασφυκτικό εγκλεισμό, και τις μεθόδους παρακολούθησης, από εταιρίες ακόμα και από δημοκρατικά εκλεγμένες κυβερνήσεις. Ενώ θέτει το ερώτημα αν τελικά όλο αυτό, είμαι εγώ και συμμετέχω σε αυτόν τον παραλογισμό.

The phrase originates from the last words of Eric Garner, an unarmed man who was killed in 2014 after being put in a chokehold by a New York City Police Officer. A number of other Black Americans, such as Javier Ambler, Manuel Ellis, Elijah McClain, and George Floyd, have said the same phrase prior to dying during similar law-enforcement encounters. According to a 2020 report by The New York Times, the phrase has been used by over 70 people who died in police custody.
